Celtic Polytheism General Information
Celtic polytheism is commonly known as Celtic paganism and sometimes Druidic polytheism. Celtic is part of the gaelic mythology which has origins of Irish and Scottish. Celtic polytheism is part of the Iron Age peoples of Western Europe, now known as the Celts. The Celts, like other ancient Indo-European peoples, practiced a form of polytheism, which reached the apogee of its influence and territorial expansion during the 4th century BC, extending across the length of Europe from Great Britain to Asia Minor. From the 3rd century onward, their history was only a decline starting with the loss of their independence on the European continent when Julius Caesar’s conquered Gaul. Today the Celtic language is spoken only in Western Europe and restricted areas of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany (only as a result of immigration from Britain from the 4th to the 7th century AD). Therefore, as a result of the uneven and unsettled history of the Celts, the documentation of their history, religion, culture and traditions has been affected.
